A 'Shenbarrow' Yew Sideboard by Gordon Russell
This sideboard is made of finely-figured and richly coloured yew wood and has two cupboards either side of a bank of three drawers. It stands on taperings legs and has a shaped apron to three sides. The handles are handmade out of brass and the locks have their original keys. Internally, there is a shelf in one cupboard and the drawer linings and bottoms are of oak. It has a panelled back.
The work of Gordon Russell Ltd, this sideboard is part of the 'Shenbarrow' suite of furniture and was designed in 1928. It is design no.803 and was offered in walnut or mahogany. This example, in yew wood, would have been a special order and is therefore a unique piece. It bears a metal Russell Workshops Ltd. label to the back.
It measures 137cm wide, 92cm high and 53.5cm deep.
It is in very good, refinished condition.
