Arts & Crafts 'Moreton' Bureau Bookcase by Liberty & Co.
This Arts & Crafts bureau bookcase has a three-quarter gallery pierced with squashed hearts and an arrangement of shelves above, below and beside a fall front and a single drawer with planished copper handles. It is made of solid, dark stained oak and the bottom shelf is adjustable. Behind the fall front it has a fitted interior.
Retailed by Liberty & Co. in the early 20th century, this model was known as the 'Moreton'. It bears a Liberty label to the drawer and appears in catalogues dating to 1907.
It measures 133cm high, 91.5cm wide and 38.5cm deep. The fall front is 62cm wide and 72cm above the floor when open.
It is in good, restored condition with some evidence of the life it has led. The bottom shelf is a replacement, the handles on the lopers are replacements, a later handle has been removed from the fall front and the holes filled (see fourth image) and elements of the fitted interior have been sympathetically replaced.
It is available to view in our Nottingham shop (please phone to make sure it is on display) or delivery can be arranged.
