An Arts & Crafts 'Chaucer' Bureau Bookcase by Liberty & Co.
This Arts & Crafts bureau bookcase is solidly made out of dark oak and has a pierced three-quarter gallery, a fall front, a single drawer with planished handles and two shelves beneath, one of which is adjustable. Behind the fall front, which rests on two lopers, is a fitted interior of pigeon holes.
Named the 'Chaucer', this model of bureau bookcase was retailed by Liberty & Co. in the early 20th century. It bears a Liberty label to the drawer and appears in catalogues dating to 1907.
It measures 119cm high, 72cm wide and 36cm deep.
It is in good and original condition, including the interior, having been cleaned and waxed. One front corner, at the base of the fall front, has taken a knock and been smoothed off (see sixth photograph). The original shelf supports have been lost.
It is available to view in our Nottingham shop (please phone to make sure it is on display) or delivery can be arranged.
