An Arts & Crafts Oak Hall Robe by Shapland & Petter
This imposing Arts & Crafts hall robe is made out of solid and well-figured oak. The pair of panelled doors, with carved decoration and large copper strap hinges, open to reveal an internal shelf, hanging space and a metal stick stand. The handles are of brass and copper.
It does not bear a stamp for Shapland & Petter but appears in their catalogues of the period as design no. 1404.
It measures 116cm wide, 212cm high and 43cm deep. The cupboard itself has an internal depth of 33.5cm.
It is in very good condition with the original finish revived and a good patination to the copper. The circular mirror, that would once have been mounted on the inside of the door, is missing and a tiny number of woodworm holes have been treated and filled.
