E Gomme & G-Plan

In 1898 Ebenezer Gomme established a chair making company in High Wycombe, a famous centre of that industry.  He had soon, however, branched out into furniture as a whole and was an early exponent of the matching dining suite.  The company grew through successfully producing simple, well-made furniture at reasonable prices, a policy they continued with great innovation after the Second World War.  G-Plan, a set of inexpensive modules that could be added to when space and finances allowed, was born in 1953 and remained popular until the seventies, transforming the company into a major concern in the process.
