E W Godwin

Edward William Godwin - architect and designer of furniture, stages and costume, friend of Whistler and Wilde as well as lover of actress Ellen Terry - was a prominent figure in the Aesthetic Movement.  His furniture designs were avant-garde and referenced Egyptian, Greek, Jacobean and Japanese styles.  Produced commercially by William Watt and Collinson & Lock, his original pieces are extremely sought after and expensive but his styles, especially the Anglo-Japanese, were briefly and widely plagiarised for those considering themselves artistic.
